Hornets from Home: K-12 Virtual Learning Option for 2020-2021

June 8, 2020

At Central-Montcalm, we believe that face-to-face teaching and learning is the best option for students when it comes to building relationships, providing rigorous academics and supporting student’s social/emotional needs. However, we recognize that during the COVID-19 pandemic we recognize that families need a choice so students can receive a full education while staying home for their own health and/or the health of those around them with compromised immune systems or underlying health conditions.

We know many of you have questions about internet access and devices. We are still working on a plan.

If you are seeking low cost Internet options for your home during the time of COVID-19 school closure, the Michigan Department of Education has provided information found in the link below listing several options.  There are eligibility requirements with each option, most of which involve what school districts know as economically disadvantaged criteria.  This is also known as eligibility for free or reduced priced school meals.  Please feel free to share this information.

Update from Superintendent Meinhardt

March 31, 2020

Dear families,

I hope you are all doing as well as can be expected during a very difficult time. I would imagine many of you, like me, are feeling very overwhelmed with all of the information that we are receiving at a very rapid rate and wondering what is accurate and what is not.
On that note, many of you have seen headlines that Michigan has closed school for the rest of the year. The state has not given that directive to the schools. In a press conference on Monday, Governor Whitmer stated that she would be holding another press conference about education later in the week. I will certainly let you know as soon as I know anything official.
In the meantime, the administrators and teachers have been working very hard to put together supplemental learning activities that will be shared daily at every grade level starting April 7. You will find these lessons on your child's school webpage starting at This will look different at every grade level. We will be sending home a bag with pencils, crayons and paper to support the learning activities if you need them. We will utilize our breakfast and lunch model to pass them out. If our supplies have arrived, we will hand them out during meal pick-up at the UE or drop them off during meal delivery starting April 6.
Drive-up at UE kitchen, 9-11, Monday, Wednesday and Friday ONLY
Please email If you can't get to our location and need meals delivered to you, please email with your address and amount of meals needed for your kids.
Thank you for your quick response to the survey we sent out about your hardware and connectivity needs. We are working hard to make sure all students have access. Please be patient as this is a very challenging task and will take time.
Finally and most importantly, please take care of yourself. It is very important to us that all of our students have access to education but also care deeply about the social and emotional toll this is taking on them. Remember to take the time to talk and hang out with your kids.
I would like to send a thank-you out to all of the essential employees who are helping us through this challenging time. The businesses and employees still providing and delivering food, the administrators and directors packing and delivering breakfasts and lunches, the internet service providers and their employees for continuing to provide and hook-up our families so we can deliver content, and so many others. It takes a community to endure tough times and I am very happy to be part of this one!
